About THINK Reference

THINK Reference is an online reference technology. The THINK Reference Viewer is a high speed hypertext browser. This technology has been used for such things as Apple's Inside Macintosh®, Symantec's documentation, and the entire archives of MacTech, develop and Frameworks magazines. The example today of THINK Reference's use is the MacTech CD which contains much of the above.

If you program the Macintosh, chances are, you've already used THINK Reference. THINK Reference's swiftness and technical articles have made it standard equipment in the Macintosh programmer's electronic library.

Advantages of the THINK Reference System

  • The documents are stored as THINK Reference "databases". These databases have been compiled with the Compiler, so the browser is not interpreting of a markup language like HTML hence the speed of THINK Reference.

  • The THINK Reference Compiler takes HTML files, and converts them into a compiled THINK Reference database. This allows you to maintain one source set of files for both a web site and static content if you so desire.

  • The THINK Reference databases are searched via large, inverted-tree indexes. This data is kept out of memory, so that the application retains a relatively small memory footprint, while providing access to a vast collection of documents. Even on a 2x CD-ROM, the searching speed is quite fast.
